    iReuse receives competitive environmental award

PALO ALTO, May 21, 2007 — Acterra today announced the winners of the prestigious 2007 Business Environmental Awards, identifying eleven companies and organizations who have demonstrated extraordinary environmental leadership from among this year’s highly competitive field of Bay Area enterprises. In a sign of the growing corporate “greening” trend that has taken root nationally and is being led by businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area, the number of regional applicants competing for Acterra’s coveted Business Environmental Awards more than doubled this year.

iReuse of San Rafael won an Environmental Enterprise award for creating a cost effective, environmentally friendly and socially responsible process for the sale, donation, reuse, recycling, and removal of surplus items. iReuse, led by Ken Kurtzig, has diverted more than a million pounds of waste, eliminating 2400 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, saving commercial clients over $500,000, and providing iReuse’s nonprofit partners with in-kind donations worth more than two million dollars.

During the rigorous three-month judging process which involved more than 25 regional environmental and sustainability experts, over 50 competitors showcased their environmental innovations in six categories including sustainability; sustainable built environment; environmental & sustainability education; environmental enterprise; commute and transportation, and pollution prevention/resource conservation.

“Acterra is thrilled with the quantity and caliber of applicants to the 2007 Business Environmental Awards,” remarked Laura Teksler, Chair of the Awards. “Clearly there are many leaders in our business community who are finding solutions that are both environmentally and economically sustainable. All the applicants are worthy of recognition.”

The eleven winners will be honored at a ceremony on June 7, 2007 at 5:30 PM at Symantec Corporation, 350 Ellis St. Mountain View.
