Original article on the NorthBay Business Journal: http://www.northbaybusinessjournal.com/20535/2010-forty-under-40-the-winners/

The winners of the Business Journal’s fourth-annual Forty under 40 awards were selected from more than 75 nominees and represent new honorees not previously chosen in 2007, 2008 or 2009.

Nominations, which were taken during the month of January, came from friends, fellow workers, managers and the Business Journal editorial staff. When the Business Journal launched this project four years ago, many told us we would never find 40 business leaders under the age of 40. We thought otherwise. Indeed, we have found 160. Their achievements represent both the current dynamism of the North Bay and the promise of the economy in the future.

That’s what Ken Kurtzig, will tell you. And as the founder and CEO of iReuse, he should know.  iReuse, is an organization in Marin County, CA that helps companies maximize their efficiency in order to maximize their profit.

Clients like Schwab, PG&E, Kaiser, and The American Cancer Society are listening to what Ken has to say, and he’s saving the money and energy, and even finding ways to reuse materials that were going to be taking up space in the landfill.  When Birkenstock was moving it’s headquarters they had 126 tons of materials, furniture and equipment that would have been taken to the landfill, but Ken Kurtzig and iReuse found other organizations that were able to use it. Not only was it good for the environment, but also Birkenstock was able to save the money it would have had to use to pay for disposal. read more

  • Delta Dental finds little things add up to big savings when “going green”

    November 10th, 2009

    PRESS RELEASE by Delta Dental
    For immediate release

San Francisco — Sometimes saving on little things, like the price of a cup for coffee, can lead to big savings. That‘s what Delta Dental discovered when it ditched disposable paper cups in its headquarters office as just one part of a larger green program initiative.

“This one little change – asking employees to use mugs and travels cups – already has saved about $30,000 annually,” said Gary D. Radine, president and CEO of Delta Dental of California, Delta Dental of New York and several other Delta Dental companies under common management. “We knew there would be some savings possible, but to see how quickly little things add up is inspiring us to look for more ways to help the environment and save at the same time.”
